Confectionery responds to gluten-free growth

Spain, the U.K., Germany, Italy and France are driving gluten-free product launches across Europe, which saw an increase of 170% between 2009 and 2013, according to Mintel. For confectionery products, gluten-free product offerings grew 46% from 2012 to 2013, according to Innova Database. As product quality improves, those suffering from celiac disease buy more and the product also becomes more attractive to mainstream consumers who follow a gluten-free diet for health reasons. Carmit Candy Industries recently launched Luscious Chocolate Cluster, but bakery remains the driver in the sweet gluten-free market.
