Hospital RDs to get more autonomy in patient care

A CMS rule that takes effect July 11 will allow registered dietitians working in hospitals to write therapeutic diet orders without physician or supervisor approval. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics President Glenna McCollum said the rule change "enhances the ability that RDs already have to provide timely, cost-effective and evidence-based nutrition services." The rule will allow hospitals to decide whether to implement the change.
