Overall enrollment in U.S. colleges decreases 0.8%

Overall enrollment in colleges and universities across the U.S. this spring is down 0.8%, compared with a year ago, according to data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. However, the decrease is less than the 2.3% decline reported last spring, and the biggest enrollment gains were at private, nonprofit colleges, where enrollments jumped by 2%, with public four-year institutions seeing a 0.7% increase.
