Drug companies deserve more patent protection, judge says

Pharmaceutical companies should be given extended patent protection to compensate for the lengthy drug-approval pipeline, according to a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The court ruled that the Patent and Trademark Office had incorrectly denied a patent-extension request pertaining to a cancer treatment.
