Heavy snowfall gives California resorts a blizzard of business

Heavy snowfall in the winter and spring helped give California ski resorts a strong year despite the economic downturn. Ski resorts reported an increase in visitors over the season to 7.5 million, up from 6.7 million last season. Visitors have spent about $700 million at ski resorts this season, and Mammoth Mountain, which usually closes over Memorial Day weekend, expects to stay open until July 4.
