Cemex envisions Florida kilns fired by orange rinds, roof shingles

Cemex plans to test a range of recovered materials as fuel for its Florida cement plants. The company is searching for ways to supplant fossil fuels for its kilns by burning waste products such as citrus peels and rice hulls, carpet-derived fuel, woody biomass and roofing shingles, among others. Cemex has requested a permit from Florida's environmental agency to test the fuels.
