Group: China's offshore wind-power capacity may reach 5 GW by 2015

China's installed wind power capacity is likely to jump from 63,000 kilowatts in 2009 to 5 gigawatts by 2015 and 30 GW by 2020, according to the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association. Building offshore wind farms, especially near China's eastern coast, will reduce local power outages and prevent long-distance power-transmission issues, said Qin Haiyan, secretary general of the China Wind Energy Association. "Compared with land-based wind farms, offshore wind farms are competitive in wind power resources, land and ecology," Qin added.
