Occupancy declines, rates increase in Rome during beatification

Hotels experienced double-digit rate and RevPAR gains but also saw occupancy declines as people from around the world gathered in Rome to await the late Pope John Paul II's beatification. According to STR, average daily rates and revenue per available room increased 21.7% and 23%, respectively, whereas occupancy decreased from 70.5% to 67.9% on the day of beatification.
