English instruction could be enhanced in Japan's elementary schools

Officials in Japan will propose enhanced English education in the country, according to a draft proposal from a governmental committee. The proposal includes plans to make English an official subject in grades 5 and 6. English currently is a mandatory subject in those grades, but as an unofficial subject it is taught just once a week.
