HHS offers $1B to spur health care innovation

HHS announced $1 billion in grants to improve the delivery of health care and reduce costs. New areas for improvement, including care for people with special needs, will be the target of the second round of Healthcare Innovation Awards, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said. Goals also include ensuring care delivery accounts for preventive and population health, testing new financial and care models for particular provider groups, and lowering the costs for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries in outpatient hospital settings.
