Norfolk Southern's "YoungNS" group was formed in 2009 to help the railroad instill "a sense of community" among its young workers throughout the company's 22-state network, writes Julie Sneider. The concept of retaining young employees is a vital step to "redefine the railroad industry for the next 100 years -- as an American hallmark, an industry of innovation and an outstanding career choice for future generations," according to the Federal Railroad Administration.
