Ill. district weighs pros, cons of social media use

As an Illinois school district considers the best approach to using social media, officials say they are weighing the benefits of enhanced brand recognition and communication with the risks of engaging students, parents and the public in an interactive conversation online. Superintendent Louis Cavallo agreed that a compromise would be to begin using Facebook, but to disable commenting and allow only select media coordinators at each school to publish school news.
