Price-cutting strategy pays off for Asda

UK supermarket chain Asda saw like-for-like sales rise 1.3% in the first quarter, its best quarterly performance in a year, as its strategy of cutting prices on everyday items instead of offering vouchers proved to be popular with consumers, CEO Andy Clarke said. The chain, owned by Wal-Mart, also reported a 16% rise in online sales during the quarter.
