Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority has barred the restart of Japan Atomic Energy Agency's Monju fast-breeder reactor because of safety violations. According to the regulator, JAEA failed to perform compulsory inspections on several components and devise improvement programs. "They repeated the same mistakes even though they said they were analyzing the root cause of the problem. I think they lack fundamental understanding about safety," said Shunichi Tanaka, chairman of the authority.
