Travel agents can make sure their clients get to stay in the best hotel rooms by getting close to key personnel from bringing them so much business, said hotel consultant and TV personality Anthony Melchiorri. "If you're just sending clients in blindly, looking for your 10% or 15% commission, they're going to treat them like any other guest," he said. "So develop a relationship." Agents should avoid threatening personnel with bad reviews, and should start with the front desk staff, rather than management, if problems arise, he said.
