Original series have created an enduring brand for FX

FX, which is marking its 20th anniversary this year, has become a major success for parent company 21st Century Fox. The cable network's value has nearly doubled over the past eight years to $9.5 billion, according to SNL Kagan. FX also has gone from being near the bottom of the ratings among the key 18-to-49 demographic to ranking sixth out of 104 basic cable networks last year. Key to FX's longevity has been its ability to develop original series, such as "The Shield," Sons of Anarchy" and "American Horror Story," that helped define its brand, Robert Marich writes.
