California buildings take energy-efficiency honors

Three California building projects were honored for their advances in energy-efficient design in the 2004 Savings By Design Energy Efficiency Integration Awards Competition. A school that uses natural ventilation and lighting, a tennis center with a photovoltaic solar array and a library with a passive evaporating cooling tower took the top prizes in the competition, which rewards high-performance nonresidential building design and construction.
