Researchers say coconut oil may prove beneficial

Formerly disparaged for containing saturated fats, experts now are looking at coconut oil for health benefits that include combating hypothyroidism, obesity and high cholesterol levels. Lab and animal studies find that coconut oils might increase fat metabolism. Human studies are lacking, but low rates of heart disease in Polynesia, where tropical oils are commonly consumed, are promising.
