Merck cancer vaccine Gardasil said to be safe, effective

FDA documents indicate Merck's Gardasil, a vaccine that blocks infection from the common types of viruses that cause most cervical cancers and genital warts, appears safe and effective, but may increase the chance of disease in some patients. The documents were released in advance of today's meeting of an FDA advisory committee to consider whether to recommend approval of the vaccine.
