New Massachusetts special educators may have to pass math test

Massachusetts could soon become the first state to require elementary-school teachers and preschool through eighth-grade special educators to pass a math test before obtaining a teaching license under a proposal that Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester will bring to the state education board this week. Most states, including Massachusetts, require an overall passing score across subjects.
