Shutting down the rumor mill

Online video gaming site The Escapist has 39 employees, and one of those is a full-time "community manager" who is responsible for maintaining the company's reputation. Co-founder Tom Kurtz says the company works hard to explain its point of view before Internet rumors get out of control. "If you go to the source and explain truthfully where you're coming from, you buy good will from people who were flaming you," he says. "There's nothing better than to turn an adversary into an advocate."
