Students in a Delaware County, Pa., furniture-making class say teacher George Trout challenges them and encourages independent thinking. "I almost never answer questions," Trout said. "I throw another question back at them, so it will lead them in the right direction. I tell my students, 'Use your brain before you use mine and you'll learn how to solve problems in any field you choose.' "
