Under pressure from Texas lawmakers, the FAA announced Friday that a Predator drone has been approved for missions along the Texas-Mexico border starting June 1. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said through a spokesman that the additional air support would boost homeland security. "It adds another layer of security," the spokesman said. "You have your boots on the ground. You have your ports of entry. You have cameras. You have sensors. The drone is like another tool in the toolbox to provide security along the border."
