Greece's fiscal problems have wreaked havoc on the global financial markets, but they could help foreigners interested in visiting Europe as well as the tour operators and travel agents. "Greece is in a very bad situation, but for leisure travelers this might be a good thing," said Alexander Kontogouris of the Greek National Tourist Office in New York. "Prices are going down, and the level of competition is very high. That's the good part to all this. Everybody's trying their best, especially on the touristic islands such as Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes and the Dodecanese." The decline of the euro also is helping U.S. travelers.
