Program helps adults manage type 2 diabetes

A five-week outpatient program in the Bronx, N.Y., called Proactive Managed Intervention System for Education in Diabetes focuses on empowering and educating adults with type 2 diabetes about self-managed care as well as productive interaction with their primary-care providers. A nurse practitioner and a dietitian conduct the two-hour group sessions, and they also take part in performing individual medical evaluations to craft reports for providers.
