The White House was involved in a "cover-up" of the IRS' targeting of conservative groups, said Rep. David Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, during his panel's first hearing regarding the scandal. Sacked IRS chief Steven Miller told the panel that "mistakes" had been made, but that they had not been politically motivated. Camp said, "This appears to be just the latest example of a culture of cover-ups -- and political intimidation -- in this administration. It seems like the truth is hidden from the American people just long enough to make it through an election."
