Texas lawmakers fail to pass school funding legislation

The Texas Senate adjourned for the summer yesterday without devising a plan to change the state's controversial school funding system, which requires wealthier districts to send a portion of their local property tax revenues to poorer districts. Gov. Rick Perry said he would continue to seek a compromise with lawmakers and hinted that a special summer or fall session would be within the realm of possibility.
