D.C. schools chief to revitalize arts education

Washington D.C., schools superintendent Clifford B. Janey plans to dedicate some of his proposed $775.5 million annual budget to expand arts education in elementary and middle schools. National Association for Music Education deputy director Michael Blakeslee praised the move and noted that, due to NCLB, administrators had been cutting back music and art programs to focus on raising reading and math scores.
