Indonesia moves to provide free primary education

Starting this July, the Indonesian government plans to begin disbursing block grants to all public, private and religious elementary schools and junior high schools as a significant first step toward offering the free education mandated by the Constitution. As a result, schools will no longer demand fees from poor students, although more affluent families will still be responsible for some school expenses.
