Seattle to keep schools open

Bending to parental and political pressure, Seattle schools chief Raj Manhas has dropped a controversial cost-cutting plan to close 10 schools and expand or convert 14 others. Manhas now says he'll form an advisory committee of community leaders to help him restructure the budget and lobby for more state and local funding.
