Pennsylvania to create new early, middle certifications

Newly certified teachers of Pennsylvania's youngest children will soon face new certification requirements, although teachers who already have an elementary education certificate, which applies to kindergarten through sixth grade, would be exempt. Beginning in 2013, an early-childhood education certificate will be required for new teachers of students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade and a new combined elementary- and middle-school certificate would be created for grades four through eight.
