Price of Indiana highway extension soars past $3B

Indiana officials estimate inflation and an almost 4,000-foot extension to a bridge have helped push the price of extending Interstate 69 from Indianapolis to Evansville to more than $3 billion. The original cost estimate for the 142-mile extension was $1.7 billion in 2003. Officials are considering reducing the width of the median and paving the extension with asphalt to bring the cost down.
