Senators express opinions on Souter replacement possibilities

Alabama Sen. Jeffrey Sessions, the leading Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, would prefer that President Barack Obama nominate a lower-court judge to fill the Supreme Court seat that will be left vacant by David Souter. This runs counter to the stance taken by Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, the committee's chairman, who would like to see a nominee come from outside the judiciary.
