Companies make calorie-reduction pledge

Sixteen food and beverage companies, including Kraft Foods, Hershey, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, vowed they would cut 1.5 trillion calories from their products by 2015. The group, which is part of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, said it would introduce more low-calorie products, reduce portion sizes, and change recipes of existing foods and drinks. The campaign "is providing a new level of leadership and momentum on childhood obesity," said Kellogg Chief Executive Officer David Mackay, chairman of the foundation.
