Illinois residents angry over golf club's mower noise

05/18/2010 | Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, Ill.)

Officials in Winfield, Ill., are trying to ease tensions between residents and Klein Creek Golf Club over pre-dawn noise caused by lawn mowers on the golf course. The village code says noise from landscaping equipment can't start until 7 a.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. weekends, but the golf course wants an exemption. As part of a compromise, groundskeepers won't leave the maintenance building until 5:30 a.m. between May 1 and Sept. 15, meaning actual landscaping work wouldn't start until about 5:50 a.m. It would start about 6:20 a.m. during the fall and early spring.
