Asda reports increase in first-quarter sales

Asda Group said first-quarter like-for-like sales rose 0.8%, not including VAT, and were up 1.7% when VAT is included. The company expects second-quarter sales to increase on the strength of Easter and Royal Wedding sales. "Andy Clarke and the Asda team had a solid start to the year, growing sales in the first quarter of this year," Doug McMillon, president and chief executive at Wal-Mart International, which owns Asda.
