Finance officials urge Strauss-Kahn to resign as IMF chief

European finance ministers, members of the International Monetary Fund board and U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner are encouraging Dominique Strauss-Kahn to resign as managing director of the IMF. "Considering the situation, that bail was denied, he has to figure out for himself, that he is hurting the institution," said Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter. The IMF board can remove Strauss-Kahn. French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann and others are being named as possible candidates to lead the IMF.
