Ohio school district adopts merit pay for teachers

Ohio's Cincinnati Public Schools district will become the first in the state to directly tie teachers' pay to students' achievement on standardized tests. Officials say that under the merit-pay plan, teachers will have input when setting their goals and will need positive evaluations to receive most pay raises. The new evaluation system is part of teachers' contracts ratified at the end of last year.
