Panel discusses comprehensive treatment approach to PAD

A multidisciplinary approach to treating patients with peripheral arterial disease can improve the quality of care, podiatrist Nicholas Bevilacqua says. Podiatrist Desmond Bell treats many PAD patients with chronic, non-healing wounds and works with a network of cardiologists and vascular interventionists so that he can refer patients quickly when he suspects their conditions are worsening. Pain management and infection control are crucial if patients with severe wounds or gangrenous toes must wait to see a vascular surgeon, Bell said.
