VOD apps may show the limits of Facebook marketing

A new Facebook application, FlickLaunch, promises to let filmmakers sell video-on-demand directly to viewers, and will let them like-gate their content in order to generate buzz before switching to a pay-per-view model. But the whole setup bears a striking resemblance to ill-fated MySpace-based MP3-merchant Snocap, notes Janko Roettgers, and should be treated with caution by marketers. "Facebook may be a great platform that has much to offer for the media business. But it won't help you sell things no one wants to buy," he writes.
