Now that alcohol content has risen, wine stands alone

The alcohol content of wine has increased in the past 20 years, changing the way people drink it. When wine was higher in acid, lower in alcohol and lighter bodied, it was served primarily with food. Now, the higher alcohol content has made wine sweeter and smoother so it is more frequently sipped without food.
