The decision by the CMS to deny payment for CT colonography underscores the lack of sufficient evidence on the test's potential as an appropriate option for the screening and prevention of colorectal cancer. "One of the primary issues identified by CMS is that patients who have polyps identified during CTC will still have to undergo colonoscopy," explained ACG President Eamonn Quigley, M.D., FACG. ACG in its March 2009 CRC Screening guideline states a clear preference for tests which prevent colorectal cancer. Read more.
