Obama will announce plan to curb vehicle emissions

A proposal supported by President Barack Obama aims to curb vehicle emissions by 30% and boost fuel efficiency requirements to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. Environmental groups and auto industry representatives say they support the proposed standards, which would also need approval from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation. The White House is expected to announce the proposal today. The plan would cut oil consumption by almost 2 billion barrels.
