Scientists hope tornado chase yields earlier warnings

A group of scientists will traverse the Great Plains over the next few weeks in search of tornadoes to study as part of the VORTEX2 research project. Researchers say they hope to learn more about how the storms form, which could lead to better early-warning systems. Tornado warnings only give an average of 13 minutes of advance notice and turn out to be false alarms 70% of the time.
