FDA approves Abbott's new blood sugar test strips

Abbott Laboratories has received FDA approval for its FreeStyle Lite test strips, which quantify blood sugar without measuring "non-glucose sugars" that can falsely elevate results and increase the risk of insulin overdose in diabetic patients. The agency said it hopes the new test strips from Abbott will put an end to inaccurate results, which have been linked to deaths and cases of coma.
