Japan plans livestock slaughter to fight disease

In an effort to stem an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, Japanese officials have announced plans to slaughter all livestock in and around the affected areas. The outbreak of the disease, which is highly contagious, has temporarily killed the country's exports of beef and pork.
