Seniors in nursing homes are at a greater risk for suicide

A U.S. study found that the risk for suicide is higher among seniors who live in assisted-living and long-term care facilities compared with those who live in their own homes. The researchers said that the risk for suicide appears to be highest during the first year of moving to a residential care facility, with depression being the most important risk factor.
