Texas board delays purchase of new science textbooks

Texas schools are unlikely to have new science textbooks until at least 2013, according to officials who cite the state's budget crisis as the reason for the delay. On Tuesday, state school board members put off approval of the new texts -- a decision that will temporarily save about $500 million. However, in spring 2012, students will take science exams based on the state's newly adopted science curriculum but without the textbooks that cover new material.
