When under stress, we may react instinctively -- but that can sometimes lead us to make irrational decisions, Tony Schwartz writes. He advises that when you start to feel upset, breathe deeply. "You've just bought time. Now you should be able to ask yourself 'How would I behave here at my best?' and make a conscious choice about how to respond," Schwartz writes.
