Strauss-Kahn resigns as IMF chief and continues to deny allegations

Under increasing pressure, Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned as managing director of the International Monetary Fund after his arrest on sexual-assault charges. His resignation is effective immediately and officially begins the search to replace him. Sweden is backing French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde for the post. Asian policymakers are pushing for someone from their region while Russia and South Africa have called for an emerging-market candidate.
